Six adventure short stories

Congratulations to Nigerian writer Omoruyi Uwuigiaren on the publication of his second book, The City Heroes and Other Stories from the Heart of Africa!

This collection includes six adventure stories for middle school kids: The City Heroes, The Jungle Ants, The Country Boy, Stranger on the Farm, Baby Thomas and Blaize and the Master of Enchantment.

I recently asked Omoruyi about The City Heroes.
Q: Tell us about your new book.
Omoruyi:  "The City Heroes is a perfect introduction for young readers to learn about the African experience. The stories within the collection contain messages and themes about forgiveness, charity, redemption and loyalty all from a decidedly African perspective.

Q: What motivated you to write it?
 Omoruyi:  "I want people to learn about a new culture in the heart of Africa."

Q: Now you write stories for young people. What books or authors inspired you as a kid?
Omoruyi:  "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" by Mark Twain, "David Copperfield" and "Oliver Twist" by Charles Dickens, and "Pinocchio" by Carlo Collodi.

Chental-Song Bembry - The Honey Bunch Kids - 14 year old author!

Just learned about 14 year old Chental-Song Bembry. She's the author of the children's book "The Honey Bunch Kids."This 64-page book was published in 2010. It took her nearly three years to write and illustrate her first book! The three characters in the book are in middle school and meet each other on the first day of classes after they miss the school bus. Have a look at this video of the author and some of her readers.
