Two Palm Beach, FL Black Bookstores

If I'm ever in Palm Beach, Florida - I'm going to visit Akbar Watson, who has been running Pyramid Books in Boynton Beach for the past 14 years, and then, Mr. James Drayton, who has owned and operated the African American Heritage Bookstore in West Palm Beach since 1994.

There's an interesting article, "The Keepers of Black Culture" in the Palm Beach Post about these two independent bookstore owners - who also stock children's book! Photo of Mr. Drayton is by Post photographer Bruce R. Bennett.

Hi Kyra,

Thanks for including Pyramid Books on your Blog. We're always encouraged when we're not "flying under the radar" as the Palm Beach Post article described. Most definitely, when you're in South Florida stop by and visit us. Akbar and Mr. Drayton are very close friends, as well as fellow independent bookstore owners. Pyramid Books is proud to be a community bookstore.

Thanks again,
