Support your local Black Bookstore this holiday

The total number of independent children's bookstores continues to decline. Kristen McLean, executive director of the Association of Booksellers for Children said recently in a Washington Post article about the closing of VA kid's bookstore, A Likely Story, that there were three times as many independent bookstores specializing in children's book as in 1984, when the ABC was founded.

This holiday season let's be sure to support not only children's bookstores, but also our community African American-owned bookstores. Here's a list of such bookstores as of May 2007. (Photo from Shrine of the Black Madonna store) Enjoy!
